Evergreen Line’s Ever Forward, a cargo ship headed from the Port of Baltimore to Norfolk, VA, ran aground in the Chesapeake Bay on March 13.
Following weeks of failed salvage operations, authorities made the decision to turn to the costly, cumbersome last resort of removing shipping containers from the ship. Removing approx. 10% of the ship’s cargo caused it to refloat by about six inches, which created enough room between its hull and the ground for the ship to be pulled to safety.
